Seamanship as it should be!

Louie B is a professional sailmaker and can truly profess to be a world's expert on the topic, although he is reluctant to say so himself! This work on making a ditty bag is the quintessence of the skills necessary to starting to repair and, possibly, make sails. Making sails of course is a separate subject and one requiring additional skills and expertise. However, many of the sailors around today, with their plastic sails, may never have known the skills necessary to conduct repairs and sewing on traditional canvas, flax and other organic materials used for sail-making, so this book represents a beginning of the work that they too can accomplish by turning their hand to and making it so for themselves. The ditty bag is truly a starting example of what a sailor can accomplish and stands much like a resume to his canvas-working skills. The assortment of tools carried coupled with the sailor's decorated sea-chest will round out the demonstrated skills needed of the able seaman in the days of sail - buy it for the history!

A book for the old salt.

Good book for the handy sailmaker or anyone who wants to learn the traditional skills. It covers the skills and tools to do proper seaming and sewing grommets. Don't expect to be an overnight expert! I figure that I'll have to make a half dozen ditty bags to come up with one that I can be proud of.
